Homework

Year 3 Autumn Term Homework Guide

Homework will be given out on Tuesday and must be returned by the following Monday.

Reading: 20 minutes each night. Please give your child the opportunity to read for 10 minutes and support them to write a comment using the help sheet which is at the front of their Reading Records. Please also allow your child to read a story more than once. It is proven that reading familiar stories expands children’s story telling capabilities. For every 5 comments, 1 house point will be awarded. These will be checked on Friday. The Rutland Library Bus will be available to our class each fortnight and children will be able to borrow an appropriate book of their choice. I would also endorse that your child should read books from home.   Reading Records must be brought into school each day.

Reading Comprehension: Every alternate week. Please support your child in writing the answers in full sentences using the question and text to help.

Writing: Every alternate week. A picture will often be the starting point to writing and related to the work we will be doing in class. This term your child should aim to write between 75 and 100 words.

Spelling: A termly sheet, outlining the spelling rules will be sent home. Using the website www.spelling frame.co.uk practise lists are available and should be gone through regularly. There is then the opportunity to take a test where any words which are tricky can be practised again. I can see the results of the tests and will be providing daily opportunities to continue to support the children. Maths

Times Tables: This term we will focus on the 2, 5 and 10 times tables and the inverse of these facts. We will also complete paper test to improve speed and accuracy. Times Tables Rock Stars is still running so please keep practising. Links to maths games can be found on our web page.

My Maths: Each week homework will be set to consolidate our work in class. Please ensure work is completed by Sunday the following week.

Below you will find resources to support your child's homework.
