At St Mary and St John CEVA Primary School, we believe that Art and Design is for everyone. Art stimulates creativity and imagination and provides opportunities for sensory experiences and exploration that enables pupils to communicate in their own way.

We believe that everyone can be an artist and feel proud to share our knowledge, skills and work.

Aims

· To enable pupils to engage with a skills-based curriculum, full of hands-on experiences with a broad range of materials and tools.

· To enable pupils to become visually literate and understand that art is a form of communication.

· To enable pupils to confidently use a wide range of resources and materials to create artwork.

· To nurture and harness creativity and acquire and develop a range of skills and techniques.

· To develop pupils’ capacity for imaginative and original thought, to try out ideas and take risks without the fear of failing.

· To help children learn about the role of art, craft and design on a local, national and global level and take inspiration from it.

· To enable pupils to share their thoughts, feelings and opinions about art and design without fear of judgement and to share feedback and constructive criticism with peers.

· To enable pupils to listen and actively engage with positive and constructive feedback from teachers and peers to further develop skills.
