Collective worship
Collective Worship is an important, cherished and integral part of every day at St Mary & St John. Pupils and staff celebrate Collective Worship together, as a class, as a Key Stage, in Houses and as a whole school.
We start each week with a Monday morning service in our beautiful church adjacent to the school, St John The Baptist. Worship is led by the Headteacher with Father Peter. All major Christian festivals are also celebrated in church and you are most welcome to join us.
Our worship is invitational, inclusive and inspiring and we weave our values through all we do. While our worship is Christianity based, we make clear links - where relevant- to other World Religions to enable the children to gain a greater understanding of the world around them.
In the gather part of our worship children are invited to light the candle and lead the school in saying our 'Candle Prayer' to begin our worship. Our school council then lead the whole school in our school vision (with actions!).
We have a prayer box in our worship area in the hall, children are encouraged to share anything/anyone they would like to pray for. On a Thursday, our 'Wildfire Crew' collate the prayer requests and write prayers for our Friday Celebration worship.
The 'Wildfire Crew' of upper KS2 pupils help to plan and lead Collective Worship.
