School Houses

Our three School Houses have been in place since the school opened in 1969. They are named after three local rivers: the Chater (Red), the Gwash (Green) and the Welland (Blue).  We now have several generations of families who have attended the school and have all been part of the same House!

Having School Houses of approximately 60 pupils provides an opportunity for all our children to be part of a larger school team, spanning the age groups. It gives some of our oldest pupils the opportunity to be chosen to be House Captains and House Sports Captains, allowing them to develop valuable leadership skills. One of the House Captains' roles is to plan and lead a fortnightly House Assembly. All staff, except Mrs Wilce,  are attached to a School House and support the House in its activities.

Belonging to a School House allows pupils to develop comradery,  teamwork skills, a sense of pride and healthy competition.

House Points can be earned throughout the week. On a Friday afternoon when we join together  as a school to reflect on and celebrate the week, the House with the highest collective total of House Points wins the House Cup (The Geoff Sewell Cup, one of the first Chairs of Governors and local farmer).

Pupils earn points at our traditional sports day every summer, competing for the House Sports Cup.

Additionally, individuals are recognised and celebrated for earning significant numbers of House Points, earning rewards and their House Colours.

Throughout the year there are many inter-house competitions run by the House Captains and Sports Captains, allowing and encouraging everyone  to play a full and active role in school life. The competitions are therefore varied - sporting, initiative games, design challenges or in the form of The Arts - music, artwork, poetry, talent shows, for example.

If you come and visit our school, our House Captains would be delighted to show you round and tell you more.
