Reading:

Your child will receive a picture book to read at home during the second Autumn term. Please  read this book throughout the week, asking questions, looking at pictures, thinking about characters feelings and using story telling language (once upon a time, next, after that, four leaf clover my story is over.)

Once your child has learnt and is confident with their Set 1 sounds they will be given a red ditty book to decode and read.

Enjoy reading and sharing books at bedtime and any time, this is perfect for developing knowledge of story structure and vocabulary. Try making predictions asking the children what they think might happen before you turn the page and of course read variety - story books, magazines, instructions, poetry and non-fiction.

Here is a list of the key books we will read and explore throughout the year as part of our Pie Corbett Reading Spine:

Owl Babies - Martin Waddell

The Gruffalo - Julia Donaldson

Handa's Suprise - Eileen Browne

Mr Gumpy's Outing - John Burningham

Rosie's Walk - Pat Hutchins

Six Dinner Sid - Inga Moore

Mrs Armitage on Wheels - Quentin Blake

Whatever Next! - Jill Murphy

On the Way Home - Jill Murphy

Farmer Duck - Martin Waddell

Goodnight Moon - Margaret Wise Brown

Shhh! - Sally Grindley
