Curriculum

To ‘let your light shine’ (Matthew 5:16) is our mission for every member of St Mary & St John CEVA Primary School. We teach the National Curriculum and Early Years Foundation Stage Framework through a carefully crafted, exciting curriculum that is enquiry-led and relevant for each year group in our school; one that stretches the most able and supports those who need it to develop knowledge, skills and a lifelong enthusiasm for learning. Our teaching and learning is underpinned by our core Christian Values. Our aim is to inspire and meet the needs of every child, regardless of their starting point, ensuring that disadvantage and additional needs do not act as barriers to learning and achievement.

We give high priority to teaching the fundamentals of reading, writing and maths every day to ensure that all pupils acquire the basic skills for learning and life, and these skills are used and practised across other subjects.

We aim to nurture them to grow holistically to become the person they are called to be. We want them to flourish socially, emotionally, physically and academically and to shine, achieving and celebrating their true and full potential.

To grow…

Through our curriculum we aim to nurture and develop children’s spiritual, social and moral purpose and grow ‘the fruit of the spirit’ (Galatians 5:22-23), building their sense of uniqueness and self-worth as an individual and as a member of our school family.

To grow to be kind, caring, confident, inclusive, emotionally resilient individuals who are self-aware and foster positive relationships, allowing friendships and personalities to thrive.

To grow to be filled with awe and wonder at God’s natural world, appreciating beauty and the excitement of experiencing things for the first time.

To flourish…

Through our curriculum to flourish as successful, outward facing, inspired and inquisitive individuals who have a passion for learning, and a self-belief they can excel. Learners, who over time deepen their understanding of life and the world, enriched through a programme of memorable learning experiences and relevant and creative opportunities that develop their academic, social and cultural capital.

Our research based, spiral curriculum supports children to remember and retrieve curriculum content, helping them to make links to deepen their understanding, empowering them to become confident, articulate, knowledgeable and skilled individuals.

To shine…

Children are empowered to shine, leading safe, healthy, ambitious and fulfilling lives guided by the love of God. They are proud of themselves, their achievements and their school, happy and ready to take the next steps into their education and lives beyond primary school.

To shine as responsible citizens with an understanding of their local and national heritage and their role in modern Britain today, so that they can make a positive contribution to not only their own community but the global community too.
